Sponsoring scholarship for children

The need for education does not have to be explained. Although young children are obliged to go to school, there is not always sufficient money to finance the school. This problem starts already for children who need to attend the elementary school. Therefore young children can be found at home in the slums while they have to be at school. Our staff in Indonesia is working closely with public schools in Blimbing to detect these students and help them to go to school again. We intend to finance the program for the elementary school (6 years), secondary school (3 years) and senior high school (3 years). Our primary focus is the primary and secondary school. In western countries university is regularly the next stage, however in Indonesia this can be only accomplished when the family is very rich. The cost to finance a student for one year, including admission fee, books, uniform and shoes is approximately € 70 regardless the level of the school. Support to the children is given respecting the following conditions: No money is directly given to the children or their parents;Selection of children is conducted at strict rules set by the local staff;Provisioning includes uniform, shoes, books and school fee;Result per student is provided to the sponsor each year;Overall financial report is provided at the end of the year; A periodical visit of a representative of the sponsor is conducted each year. The goal of Satu PerSatu in 2008 is to support around 50 children. In 2007 the target has been set to 30 children for the elementary school. Please find below a specification of the budget for existing children who are already supported and the new amount of children that will be obtained.
