Partner organisation: Kiganda Vegan Orphans Support Organisation (VOSO)
VOSO is a small orphanage and animal shelter just outside Kampala. Vincent Kalanzi and Yasin Ssentongo are the managers, supported by their grandmother. They care for 22 orphans and three children with disabilities, who are only present during the day when they are not in school. They also run a shelter with a variety of animals, including 35 cats, 50 dogs, two cows, goats, and turkeys. The children receive food, shelter, vocational training, and education so they can build their own futures free from poverty.
Kiganda Orphanage focuses on healthy nutrition, food security and education for orphans. The charity owns 2 hectares of agricultural land. In this area there is enough space to organize a fruit orchard and a vegetable garden.
After the land has been ploughed, vegetables have been sown, vegetable plants and fruit trees planted. The harvested vegetables and fruits are primarily used to feed the children involved. Whatever is left is sold at the market so that the proceeds can be used to make investments for next year.
