SWEET is a rural women-led foundation working in various districts of Tamil Nadu, India. SWEET is a small women-led group that is committed to empowering 250 very poor women and children through life skills education, health awareness and income generation programs to overcome the negative effects of poverty.
SWEET aims to develop rural areas and the economy. With Plenty Food, work is underway to establish a fruit orchard and vegetable garden on the land adjacent to the office. The harvested vegetables and fruits will primarily be used to feed the poor women and children involved. Any leftovers will be sold in the market so that the proceeds can be used to fund investments for next year.
With our support, SWEET has planted fruit trees and grown various vegetables, installed fencing to protect against wildlife, a composting plant, an electric water pump and irrigation system.
