Dear family and friends, on 24 June, I'm going to run up all the stairs of the tallest office building in Amsterdam: UP office building, along with many other runners. Together we not only challenge ourselves to reach the top, but also to raise money for Vijana Reloaded in Kenya. In 9 years time, the unemployment rate in Kenya grew from 12% to over 40% today. The majority (70%) is youth between 18-35 years. Youth, "vijana" in Swahili, living in rural areas can't find jobs and seek their luck in Nairobi or migrate elsewhere. Vijana Reloaded (VR) envisions a future where young women & men (18-30) living in rural Kenya are the driving force behind creating jobs for themselves and their fellow youth, locally. Research showed that the lack of creative entrepreneurial & ICT skills is currently hampering youth to start their own business. VR's mission is to train over 30,000 youth, who create 100,000 jobs by 2020. VR’s first training center in Kakamega delivers a proven successful traineeship. With this sponsor event, all runners are raising money for Vijana Reloaded to set-up 2 more training centers in rural Kenya in the coming year. This is part of the scale-up strategy, where Vijana Reloaded envisions a dense network of training centers throughout rural Kenya in the coming 5 years. With your support, you will help Vijana Reloaded to scale up their great work that offers youth in Kenya the opportunity to create 100,000 jobs in the coming 5 years!
