Jitse's Journey to India to Fight Cancer

Op 26 maart is Jitse's fiets gestolen in het centrum van Thessaloniki, Griekenland. Met deze fiets was Jitse al 6 maanden onderweg vanuit Nederland naar India om geld in te zamelen voor kinderen met kanker. Jitse heeft als kind zelf kanker gehad en is vastbesloten zijn tocht naar India voort te zetten. Hij wordt gesponsord per kilometer en wil z.s.m. weer in het zadel. Hiervoor is hulp hard nodig!

Update 31/3: Jitse heeft aangifte gedaan, maar de politie geeft er weinig prioriteit aan. Daarom heeft hij verschillende lokale en regionale media opgezocht om zijn verhaal te vertellen. ACHTERGROND

Stichting DreamCycle: fietstocht naar India voor kinderen met kankerOm geld in te zamelen voor kinderen met kanker fietst Jitse duizenden kilometers naar India. Donateurs sponsoren Stichting DreamCycle per afgelegde kilometer. Opbrengsten gaan naar een project van het Prinses Máxima Centrum in Utrecht.  Dit project, genaamd “MAXIMAAL Bewegen” heeft als doel kinderen met kanker meer te laten bewegen, zowel tijdens als na hun opname in het centrum. 

Wie is Jitse BoumaOp 12-jarige leeftijd kreeg Jitse (inmiddels 30) zelf leukemie. Twee jaar lang kon Jitse niet sporten en was hij beperkt in zijn energie. Met goede begeleiding en een flinke dosis wilskracht revalideerde Jitse en werd hij weer fit. Geïnspireerd door zijn behandeling besloot Jitse zelf fysiotherapeut te worden. Na 5 jaar fysiotherapie uit te oefenen in Baarn legt Jitse zijn werk neer, richtte hij Stichting DreamCycle op en fietst hij naar India voor kinderen met kanker. “Met mijn reis wil ik kinderen inspireren om hun dromen na te leven en hun hart te volgen tijdens en na hun periode van ziek zijn. Elk klein stapje helpt bij het uiteindelijk vervullen van hun droom”.

NEW BIKE FOR JITSE'S JOURNEY TO INDIA TO FIGHT CANCER 

On the 26th of March Jitse’s bicycle was stolen, along with all the necessary equipment, in the city centre of Thessaloniki, Greece.

Jitse started his journey 6 months ago, cycling from the Netherlands with the final destination being India. The main purpose of this adventure was to raise money for children with cancer. Growing up Jitse suffered from leukemia himself and as a survivor he is determined to proceed his journey. Currently sponsors are gathered and funds are being granted for every traveled kilometer. Jitse wants to get back into the saddle as soon as possible, and could use all the support he can get.

Update 31/3:Jitse reported/brought criminal proceedings to the police, but they have made it clear that they will not make this report a priority matter. For this reason Jitse began to reach out to local and regional media in Greece as well as dutch national media. In the Netherlands DreamCycle together with Princes Máxima Center also started a crowdfunding.

Foundation: ‘Stichting DreamCycle’; Journey to India to fight cancerTo raise money for children suffering from cancer disease Jitse is cycling thousands of kilometers towards India. Donations are sponsoring the foundation ‘Stichting Dreamcycle’ for every traveled kilometer. Funds raised will go to a project of the teaching hospital ‘Prinses Máxima Centrum’ in Utrecht, Netherlands. The main goal of the project: ‘MAXIMAAL Bewegen’ is to help children suffering from cancer to exercise. Not only during their stay in the hospital but in the aftercare as well.

Jitse BoumaAs a twelve year old boy Jitse suffered from leukemia. During this two year period he was not able to perform any sports and had a limited amount of energy. With the help of professional guidance and a large amount of willpower Jitse recovered to become healthy and fit again. Inspired by his treatment Jitse decided that he wanted to become a physiotherapist. After five years of performing physical therapy he started the foundation ‘Stichting Dreamcycle’. At present he is cycling to India to support children with cancer and raising funds. “With my journey I want to inspire children to follow their dreams and heart during and after their period of illness. Every small step helps to eventually fulfill their dream”.
