From the moment she was born, Mbabazi Eustina Gaby was special. At just 2 months old, doctors discovered a condition that caused her to suffer seizures during childhood, leaving her with general body weakness. Though the seizures eventually subsided, Gaby continued to struggle with forgetfulness, mood disorders, and difficulty maintaining attention.
Because of her condition, Gaby’s father abandoned the family—leaving her mother, an unemployed single parent, to carry the heavy burden alone. She works tirelessly at a small grocery stall, earning less than €2 a day to care for Gaby and keep their household afloat.
But tragedy struck again. On her way to school, 9-year-old Gaby was knocked down by a hit-and-run vehicle. What should have been an ordinary morning turned into a fight for her life.
Gaby sustained devastating injuries:
• A severely perforated stomach with intestines protruding• Multiple pelvic fractures that shortened her left leg• Deep 4th-degree perineal lacerations• Multiple bruises on her face and armShe was rushed to Mulago Hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery, including a diversion stoma and perineal repair. But Gaby’s journey is far from over—she urgently needs a critical medical procedure costing €12,300 to recover, walk again, and live without constant pain.
