Cikananga Wildlife Center Greenhouse Damaged by Fallen Tree

This morning, January 23, a severe storm swept through the Cikananga area, causing a large tree to fall directly onto our propagation greenhouse, resulting in devastating damage to the building. Furthermore, the fallen tree has damaged the irrigation and the electrical systems at Farm.

The greenhouse is a critical part of Cikananga’s Sustainable Farming Program (PPBC). Over the past year, it helped to produce more than 7,000 kg of healthy, nutritious, and organic food for the many rescued animals at the Cikananga Wildlife Center.

Despite our ongoing efforts to carefully maintain and manage the surrounding trees, this particular tree fall was unexpected and struck the greenhouse directly.

This facility is essential for growing young crops using regenerative and sustainable farming techniques, which allow us to produce organic, healthy food, while also supporting our education program for school kids and local farmers. Through this program, we organize workshops and hands-on experience for schoolkids and help farmers adopt sustainable and resilient agriculture practices.

With the greenhouse now unusable, a vital link in our farming process has been lost. We urgently look for emergency funding to rebuild the structure so we can continue growing food for the many animals living within the Cikananga Wildlife Centre, as well as those in the Cikananga conservation breeding program.

If you can support us during this critical time, your help will directly enable us to restore this essential part of our sustainability work.

Thank you for supporting Sustainable farming, wildlife and conservation!

Stichting Wanicare
