HIRDA aims to distribute basic food packets and water for 200 families in IDP's in three regions of  somalia drought effected area where a large number of people and thousands of livestock are believed to have died from hunger and thirst since the drought began in late 2016. Due to two consecutive seasons in Somalia of rain failure in Somalia coupled with persistent insecurity. Severe drought has resulted in widespread human suffering, including death, as well as massive livestock losses. The population has recognized the severity and the magnitude of the current drought as the worst in living memory.  Malnutrition and mortality rates are severe and alarming. Severe water shortages are exacerbating the situation. Expenditure on water, and other essential non-food items, now makes up 80 to 90 percent of poor and middle expenditure in the region. Moreover, pastoralists are forced to trek long distances to find water, which is often contaminated. This crisis has surpassed the community’s capacity and all existing coping strategies are exhausted. Water and Sanitation is imperative - affecting health and quality of life of people.  People are using contaminated water which was a major contributor to their poor health status. this is greatly increasing the risk of contracting water-borne diseases.
