HEALTH CARE STAFF IS SAVING LIVES - Let's protect them!

Het kost in Mexico € 3.000 aan beschermingsmiddelen om 10 artsen voor drie weken VEILIG te houden. In die tijd kunnen ze honderden coronapatiënten ondersteunen.

Terwijl de COVID-19-pandemie zich over de wereld verspreidt, zijn de gezondheidsstelsels cruciaal gebleken, maar tegelijkertijd ook een zwakke schakel bij de inspanningen om het aantal sterfgevallen te verminderen. Dit is nog extremer in ontwikkelingslanden en Mexico vormt daarop geen uitzondering.

Met zwakke politieke actie op nationaal niveau en met beperkte middelen heeft het Mexicaanse gezondheidssysteem prioriteit moeten geven aan de levering van persoonlijke beschermingsmiddelen (PBM) aan hun gezondheidspersoneel. Desondanks blijven duizenden zorg- en ondersteunend personeel in ziekenhuizen kwetsbaar voor COVID-19.

Sommigen van hen kopen hun eigen PBM’s en spenderen hier tot wel een derde van hun inkomen aan, anderen kunnen de juiste apparatuur niet betalen en moeten daardoor werken met een verhoogd risico. Op 13 april waren er al meer dan 500 gezondheidsmedewerkers besmet en zijn er minstens 9 overleden aan het coronavirus.

Hoe meer fondsen we kunnen inzamelen, des te meer gezondheidswerkers kunnen er beschermd worden. Aangezien de kosten voor de benodigde beschermingsmiddelen ca. $ 2650 MXN (ongeveer 100 euro p.p.) per week bedragen, streven we naar minimaal € 3000 om drie ziekenhuizen te kunnen voorzien van voldoende middelen.

Het betreft de volgende persoonlijke beschermingsmiddelen:

• overalls (1 per dag p.p.)
• N95-mondkapjes (gebruiksduur; 6-8 uur)
• veiligheidsbrillen (herbruikbaar)
• dozen operatiehandschoenen (3 paar nodig per patiënt per dag)
• Chirurgische hoofdbescherming

Voor dit inzamelingsproject werken we samen met Rotary Club Plaza de la Republica, die de persoonlijke beschermingsmiddelen zullen inkopen voor gezondheidswerkers in de ziekenhuizen "General de México", "Dr. Gustavo Baz Parada" en "Clinic 24", allemaal gevestigd in Mexico City en onderdeel van het Mexicaanse volksgezondheidssysteem.

HEALTH CARE STAFF IS SAVING LIVES - Let's protect them!

€ 3,000 is the cost of the protective equipment to keep 10 doctors SAFE in Mexico for 3 weeks, enough to support hundreds of corona patients.

As the COVID-19 pandemic spreads to the world, health systems have proven to be crucial, as well as a weak link in efforts to save lives. This is even more extreme in developing countries, and Mexico is no exception.

With weak political action at the national level and limited resources, the Mexican health system cannot supply personal protective equipment (PPE) to all its health care personnel. As a result, thousands of hospital care and support staff remain vulnerable to COVID-19.
Some of them buy their PPE spending up to a third of their income on it. Others cannot afford the right equipment and have to work at an increased risk. By April 13, more than 500 health workers were already infected, and at least 9 died from the coronavirus.

The more funds we collect, the more health workers we can protect. The required protective equipment amounts to approximately $ 2650 MXN (approximately 100 euros p.p.) per week. We aim to provide the hospitals at least 3000 euros of the equipment they told us they are missing. Donated money will be used to provide the hospitals with:

• overalls (1 needed per day p.p.)
• N95 masks (life span; can be 6-8 hours)
• safety glasses (reusable)
• boxes of surgical gloves (3 pairs of gloves are required per patient)
• Surgical head protection

For this project, we are partnering with the Rotary Club Plaza de la Republica, which will buy the personal protective equipment for health professionals in 3 hospitals “General de México”, “Dr Gustavo Baz Parada” and “Clinic 24”, all located in Mexico City and part of the Mexican public health system.
