I am planning to organize a fun day for the children of Taman Permata Hati Bali Orphan Center by going to the Monkey Forest and include food and beverages.
Taman Permata Hati Bali Orphan Center is located in the village of Nyuh Kuning (Ubud), below the Monkey Forest. I started volunteering there as an English teacher to fulfill the wish of Mama Ayu (the manager), as she was still in need of a volunteer.
I realized due to international developments such as tourism, places which were once accessible to local Balinese are now being capitalized - which means most locals are not able to afford going there anymore. Since I am a visitor on their island, I would like to give back to the community by financing activities, like organizing this fun day.
Happily, the management of Monkey Forest was at least willing to drop the price and give a discount for the group. The total group will be an estimated 40 people (children and adults). One ticket is 20.000 IDR, which is around €1,33. The total amount of tickets is max. €55. Additionally, I like to collect money for food and beverages to complete a fun day together. For that reason, to ensure a complete coverage, I aim to collect a total amount of €150.
I understand this will not solve the general issue the Balinese locals are facing, but: if you want to make a change you start small by giving back to your direct environment. In the end, I would do anything to see the smiles of these children!
*If there is any money left over, it will be used for other activities / materials.
