After running the 10 km again in the Hague on Sunday May 25, 2025. I decided to train again to run a complete marathon. The same 6 races as I did 10 years ago. More about my training can be found here. I’m going to do it for fun but also for Aethos. (LinkedIn).
I’m scared due to my cancer; it made me decide to already ask (aviation) friends to sponsor for the half marathon. If the test tells the cancer is growing again, I won’t be doing the complete marathon but me finishing a half one is also impressive. I will be doing the Egmond Halve Marathon, Sunday January 11, 2026.
Aethos is a foundation that I started because I have disassembled aircraft for years. For example, I founded a company, AELS, and I have been on the board of the worldwide organization, AFRA, for years. Aethos is a foundation that tries to improve the recycling of aircraft materials. There are challenges where Aethos helps the aviation world. I started Aethos because I have incurable cancer, glioblastoma. I am now already among the lucky 20% given the effect of the medicines that I have been given. So being able to do sports is very nice and fun.
I take many (training) steps as a contribution to a good step for Aethos. Aethos is taking important steps towards a better aviation world. Can you help us too? If you work in the aviation world, please ask if your company would like to help. I am very much looking forward to talking about Aethos with all aviation companies. Helping each other is something we are used to in aviation, but it does require time and funding. Thanks for reading, your help and your contribution.

Na mijn 10 km-loop in Den Haag op zondag 25 mei 2025 besloot ik opnieuw te gaan trainen voor een volledige marathon. Dezelfde 6 wedstrijden als 10 jaar geleden. Meer over mijn training vind je hier. Ik doe het voor de lol, maar ook voor Aethos (LinkedIn).
Ik ben bang vanwege mijn kanker; daardoor vraag ik alle (luchtvaart)vrienden om te sponsoren voor de halve marathon. Als uit de test blijkt dat de kanker weer groeit, loop ik de volledige marathon niet, maar het voltooien van een halve marathon is ook al indrukwekkend. Ik loop de halve marathon van Egmond op zondag 11 januari 2026.
Aethos is een stichting die ik heb opgericht omdat ik al jaren vliegtuigen demonteer. Zo heb ik bijvoorbeeld het bedrijf AELS opgericht en zit ik al jaren in het bestuur van de wereldwijde organisatie AFRA. Aethos is een stichting die zich inzet voor de verbetering van de recycling van vliegtuigmaterialen. Er zijn uitdagingen waarbij Aethos de luchtvaartwereld helpt. Ik heb Aethos opgericht omdat ik een ongeneeslijke vorm van kanker heb, glioblastoom. Ik behoor nu al tot de gelukkige 20% dankzij de medicijnen die ik heb gekregen. Het is dus erg fijn en leuk om weer te kunnen sporten.
Ik onderneem veel (trainings)stappen als bijdrage aan een goede stap voorwaarts voor Aethos. Aethos zet belangrijke stappen richting een betere luchtvaartwereld. Kunt u ons ook helpen? Als u in de luchtvaartsector werkt, vraag dan of uw bedrijf wil bijdragen. Ik kijk er erg naar uit om met alle luchtvaartbedrijven over Aethos te praten.
