The Etape du Tour is a stage of the Tour De France open to the general public.
Each year around 8500 people from all over the world take part. The 16th edition
of the most coveted amateur bike race in France is an absolute classic Pyrenean
Mountain stage, over 165 km that starts from the city of Pau and includes the
monumental climb of the Col du Tourmalet, the biggest summit of the Pyrénées
with 23.4 km (average 7%) before finishing on top of the Hautacam mountain,
(14 km with an average ascent of 7.2%) a winter sports resort of spectacular natural
beauty with extraordinary views of the Pic du Midi and the Val dAzum.
As some of you might know, I will be participating in the above race in France on
July 6th! I sat on a road bike for the first time this year, January 26th, so as you can
imagine I will need all the motivation and inspiration I can find to accomplish this
165 km ride! To help a good cause and as extra motivation, I have decided to
cycle for ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) a disease my mother-in-law (Yvonne)
was diagnosed with less than 2 years ago.
I would like to ask you for your support. Please sponsor me for this huge challenge
by donating an amount of your choosing to the Dutch ALS Foundation.
Every little bit helps. My mother-in-law has volunteered to be part of every ALS
research program there is in the Netherlands, the disease progresses at such a
speed that a cure will not be found to save her life, but with participation and
raising money for such programs, hopefully, there will be a cure in the near future.
