Fieldfisher & Friends Fietsmarathon | Endometriose Stichting

Your support makes a difference

We are Fieldfisher, a European law firm with 2,200 colleagues spread across 27 offices. For our global initiative One Firm Action, each office chooses an aim to support. This year, Fieldfisher Amsterdam is committed to the Endometriosis Foundation.

During the Fieldfisher & Friends Cycling Marathon on November 27 and 28, we will be cycling non-stop for 24 hours on two hometrainers at our office with the help of friends, colleagues, and other ambassadors to raise awareness for endometriosis and raise money for the Endometriosis Foundation.

What is endometriosis?

Endometriosis affects 1 in 10 women. It is a chronic disease in which tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus. This causes inflammation and scarring that can affect organs such as the ovaries, fallopian tubes, bladder, and intestines.

What are the consequences?

The consequences of the disease are enormous: chronic pelvic pain, extremely painful periods, prolonged fatigue, and sometimes even infertility. The impact of this is severe, both physically, mentally, and socially. Endometriosis causes 30 billion euros in sick leave in the EU every year. Yet funding for research into endometriosis has lagged behind for decades.

Currently, it takes an average of 8 years to diagnose the disease, which for many women means unnecessary worsening of the disease and sometimes irreversible consequences. Treatment options are still limited and mainly focused on pain relief. Social awareness is slowly growing thanks to the efforts of organizations such as the Endometriosis Foundation, but knowledge about the cause and effective treatment of endometriosis must and can be improved.

Support the mission

To ensure that endometriosis can be recognized earlier, treated more effectively, and women receive more help, there is an urgent need for more research.

The Endometriosis Foundation is committed to:

➤ Earlier diagnosis and better care and support

➤ More research into causes and treatments

➤ Recognition in society

With your donation to the Endometriosis Foundation, you are directly contributing to an important mission. Your help enables the Endometriosis Foundation to provide information, organize meetings for fellow sufferers, promote research, and monitor endometriosis care.

Of all the women you know, 10% live with this chronic disease. Donate now and improve endometriosis care.

In addition to fundraising, Fieldfisher Amsterdam assists the Endometriosis Foundation with manpower and provides pro bono legal advice. Would you like to know more about endometriosis or are you curious about how you or your company can get involved? Feel free to contact us at joanne.uiterwijk@fieldfisher.com or merel.vanaar@fieldfisher.com.

* Not all people living with endometriosis identify as women.

Endometriose treft 1 op de 10 vrouwen, maar toch duurt het gemiddeld 7 jaar voordat zij een juiste diagnose krijgen. Dat betekent jarenlang leven met pijn, onzekerheid en onbegrip.
