On July 30 I will run the Half marathon from Lauwersoog to Ulrum for my sister in law and my nieces and my brother. They have gone through a lot in the last years and my run is mainly to support those who suffer from grief, loss and sickness - this is just a small way to show my care. From powerless to a bit more powerful.
In the past year our family in Holland has been struck yet again by cancer, and it has been with fear, sadness, pride and strength that I have seen my niece take on the battle, and come out after treatments, operations with efforts and pain but alive and strong. I am so proud of her, and of my brother’s family who have been impacted also.
As an expat, living far away I have felt helpless and inadequate, not being able to DO something for them and her. So I have started training and this summer I aim to be able to help more directly.
The Half Marathon Lauwersoog-Ulrum will be on July 30-2016.
21 Kilometers through flat Holland, the place where our family grew up, 21 kilometers to reflect on the years that have past, 21 kilometers to run and see my niece at the finish line, and…… 21 kilometers that can be sponsored!
The KIKA foundation (Kinder Kanker is child cancer in Dutch) helps with research for all forms of children cancer, and I will be running to afterwards donate as much as possible to KIKA.
